Dear Legacy Network Security Product

Dear Legacy Network Security Product,

It’s not me, it’s you.

When we started out, it seemed so promising, you had all that new firewall, VPN, VDI perimeter energy going for you. But I’ve grown and moved on to a more modern, seamless approach. Identity-based security has swept me off my feet with its flexibility and scalability—it’s not just a fling, it’s the future.

As for us, we seem to be stuck in a loop of constant updates and patches. Each time a new vulnerability is exposed, it’s like you’re sharing another secret I never knew about. And let’s not even start on the mismatched components—it’s like trying to pair socks in the dark. Some days, I feel like a CIO therapist, constantly mediating between your antiquated modules.

I need more than just perimeter security now. I yearn for the sophistication of zero trust networks, where security is not just a gate but a pervasive atmosphere. I feel the allure of AI-driven security systems, which adapt and learn, unlike your rigid protocols that age as gracefully as milk.

I think it’s time for us to part ways. I’m looking for a solution that complements my growth, not one that ties me to the maintenance treadmill. Please don’t take it personally. You were perfect for a time when the internet was young and we were naive. But that time is over.

So, I’m saying goodbye to the frequent vulnerabilities, the cumbersome software, and the endless cycle of panic whenever a new threat looms on the horizon. I’m embracing a new partner that understands my needs for agility, intelligence, and above all, security that doesn’t keep me up at night.

Thank you for the lessons, the challenges, and for showing me exactly what I don’t want in a network. I’ll always cherish the memories of simpler times, but I’m off to build a future with someone else.

Wishing you all the best in your future updates and patches.

Sincerely,

A CIO, and now your ex.
