About the role
In this role you will be working as a principal engineer on our Fabric development team. This team maintains ownership over databases, data pipelines, distributed systems, and systems development within Xage’s products. Principal engineers are expected to have a significant independence and the ability to lend their expertise to help decide the future direction of our team’s areas of responsibility. Some examples could be selecting technologies and developing our distributed systems and databases to solve problems related to adding security and functionality features to our distributed systems and databases, reworking existing features to improve scalability/performance, or developing foundational systems to improve the stability and performance of our product. Principal engineers are also expected to have developed skills around communication, leadership, empathy, and mentorship to help guide and develop other team members with less experience.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with a team of engineers to develop and maintain existing distributed databases, distributed ledger technology, data pipelines, PKI, secure audit logging, and other internal infrastructure
- Drive the future architecture and development of our distributed database systems
- Drive the future architecture and development of our internal infrastructure (PKI, secure audit logging, service-to-service communication, etc.)
- Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders for requirements, architecture, and overall design
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and adopt best practices
- Take ownership of projects and initiatives and ensure high quality of deliverables
Skills and Experience
- Must have 5+ years of experience building enterprise software and strong engineering background
- Fluent in one of Go/Java/Rust/C++ software development
- Prior experience with modern C++ / C++11 or greater is preferred
- Able to learn and adapt to new programming languages as needed
- Must have a strong interest and prior experience in distributed systems and databases
- Must have an understanding of algorithms and efficient data structures
- Must have an understanding of performance and performance analysis in distributed systems
- Must have strong architectural and design experience building software application across many system layers
- Must have passion for improving performance, user experience and scalability
- Must have solid coding and debugging skills
- Must communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a team environment
